New Music
The Marian Consort is a leading commissioner of new music for vocal ensemble. It’s a crucial part of our work, and an opportunity for us to reinvigorate the choral tradition and the early music we love, working with new voices, and reaching new audiences through performance and recording.
We explore a number of themes in our commissioning work, including underrepresented voices and perspectives; musical styles outwith typical classical choral music; challenging traditions and tropes of choral music. We champion emerging and early career composers who have had fewer opportunities to write for vocal ensemble, and provide an environment in which they can develop.
In recognition of our achievement in commissioning quality new work and ongoing ambition, in 2021 we were awarded three year funding from the John Ellerman Foundation, to support the creation of 15 new works.
We’re grateful for the support of a number of funders and partners in enabling our programme of commissioning, including the John Ellerman Foundation, PRS Foundation, Leche Trust, Golsoncott Foundation, Vaughan Williams Foundation, Hinrichsen Foundation, Royal Philharmonic Society, Choir & Organ Magazine and a number of generous individuals.
